How we started
The idea for CleanO2 came to life when Jaeson Cardiff, a plumber and HVAC mechanic, wanted to do something meaningful about climate change. Specifically, he wanted to address the greenhouse gas produced by the heating industry, which accounts for 13% of emissions in Canada.
Jaeson’s Eureka! moment came when he realized that a compound he used to clean boilers could also be used to capture carbon dioxide.
Jaeson joined forces with CleanO2 co-founders Kathi Fischer, a chemical technologist, and Scott Forgrave, president of Excelair Mechanical Services (and Jaeson’s boss at the time). The team set out to capture carbon dioxide from building heating-system flues.
After months of experimentation — and a couple of explosive close calls — the first prototype was born. Now at version 3.4, CarbinX has been deployed to Canada, Japan and the United States.
